Oh, I’m doin’ a lotta good, I’m makin’ a difference in this world;
But I can’t remember the last time I read a story to my little girl.
Oh, my life it spins so fast – seems that it’s always in a whirl,
But am I sacrificin’ what is most important,
As I’m doin’ a lotta good in this world?
Oh, I’m doin’ a lotta good; Seems that everywhere I turn,
There’s a hundred people needing me – How will I ever learn,
How to choose the most important, out of all that could be done?
In serving all these multitudes – Am I forgetting the one?
Oh, God of heaven, you know my heart, you hold it in your hands,
For long ago I gave it unto thee.
Oh, give me wisdom, and help me start to truly understand,
What thou desirest of me!
Because I’m doin’ a lotta good, Spreading hope and sharing joy;
But I can’t remember the last time I played basketball with my little boy.
Seems that everywhere I go, seems that every single day,
Though I’m doin’ a lotta good…. I wonder if I’ve lost my way?
Oh, God of heaven, please speak to me, Send light into my mind;
Teach me how to do the things that I must do.
For somehow you manage galaxies, Yet are there for every child –
Teach me, Father, how to be like you.
Teach me to do a lotta good, To be a light in this hungry world,
Without ever sacrificing The needs of my little boy and girl –
Give me wisdom, give me strength, And the insight that I need
To do a lotta good, without forgetting to feed those closest to me:
Father, please work through me – Help me to do a lotta good,
The right kind of good – The most important kind of good.
