As a young girl, not quite fifteen,
I knelt one night and asked, in fervent prayer,
What did my future hold? What would be my path?
Could I know which way to go, somehow, somewhere?
Then slowly, I thumbed through the holy scriptures,
And trembled as these words jumped out at me:
CHORUS:
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
And he will direct thy paths.
Years later, now with children of my own,
I knelt again one night, pressed down with overwhelming cares:
How could I bear it all? What should be my course?
Could I find the peace I sought, somehow, somewhere?
Then slowly, the voice of the Holy Spirit
Brought these tender words of comfort back to me:
(REPEAT CHORUS)
That seed of faith, planted so many years ago,
Has now become a tall and mighty tree;
And that message that was such a comfort way back then
Still remains such a strength to me:
(REPEAT CHORUS SOFTLY)
In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
And He will direct thy paths.
